Mummy Tucks Remove Excess Skin and Body Fat after Pregnancies
After a pregnancy, many women are dismayed to find that not all of the fat disappears. Others are left with folds of excess skin or unsightly stretch marks. Popularized by Hollywood mothers like Angelina Jolie, the “mummy tuck” is a new procedure, which allows mothers to return to their normal sizes and selves following childbirth.
The procedure is performed just like a typical abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. There are four categories of this surgery. The “mini tuck” takes fat out of the lower abdomen, but does not require a repositioning of the belly button. A full tummy tuck is characterized by a repositioned navel. Also, the abdominal muscles can be tightened, and “body lifts” remove fat from both the back and the stomach to create a slimmer figure overall.
Most plastic surgeons recommend that the surgery be performed after the mother has her last child. This prevents future complications during childbirth. Also, the tuck should not be performed at the same time as a C-section. This greatly increases the chance of infection.
As with any plastic surgery, it is important to know the potential risks and implications of a tummy tuck. Contact a plastic surgeon today if you would like to drop excess pounds after the birth of your child. A simple phone call or office visit can help you find out if this procedure is for you.
